Education is believed to be the biggest solution to the problem of inequality and poverty. Many believe that it is the greatest social leveller today. While education empowers individuals and provides them access to more opportunities, it is believed that is not the panacea to the problems the world faces today. Given the complexity of the issues can education be the solution to all our problems?
Fall in wages, shrinking job opportunities and greater income divide show that the young generation today faces a bleak future. Many believe that education is no longer a social leveller it used to be. Income divides have shown that parents with high-incomes will not let lower-income children overtake. Children of low-skilled parents are more likely to leave school with poor qualifications. While everyone agrees that everyone should get equal learning opportunities this is not always the case. Failure to facilitate better education will lead to greater social, economic, and political problems for future generations.
