Evidence suggests that the major barrier to education is the lack of good teachers. For good learning, it is necessary that there are good teachers. In many countries, teachers are taking efforts to make improvisations in their teaching methods. In many countries, it is necessary that there should be a platform for teachers to address the key challenges of making all teachers effective. There need to be policies for making teaching a respectable and attractive profession and ensuring teachers are equipped with the right skills and knowledge before entering the classroom and subsequently supporting them throughout their careers. The World Bank started the “Successful Teachers, Successful Students” programme.
Technological innovations can also play an important role in providing education. Technologies like interactive classrooms and internet can provide support to teachers, students, and complement the learning process. It can help teachers better manage the classroom and offer different challenges to different students. Millions of students are benefiting from the effective use of technology, but millions more in the developing world are not. However, developing countries are also creating equal opportunities for education. An example of this can be the efforts of EkStep, an open digital infrastructure in India which provides access to learning opportunities for 200 million children. It has also helped in professional development opportunities for 12 million teachers and 4.5 million school leaders.
Effective learning can only take place when education systems are updated and managed well. There is a need for good educational policies that ensure inclusive learning. One of the most important documents for inclusive education is the Salamanca Statement which had more than 300 participants who recognised the need of fundamental policy shifts required to promote the approach of inclusive education, namely enabling schools to serve all children, particularly those with special educational needs.
