In writing and speaking, there are four basic types of sentences that are used for different purposes, declarative sentences, interrogative sentences, imperative sentences and exclamatory sentences. Sentence combining provides repeated practice using conjunctions, adjectives and other parts of speech to turn short, choppy sentences into a single, more cohesive sentence.
