Climate Change: Possible Solutions

ENERGY SOURCES such as solar, biofuels, hydro, wind, waves, tides, and geothermal are continually replenished, so they are renewable on this timescale. To stay solvent in energy terms over the long term leaves no choice other than to transfer society’s day-to-day energy supply to renewable sources, or return to a low-energy society. The other alternative is harnessing energy from nuclear fission or fusion, but that too cannot last indefinitely.

Another way that can be a possible solution is SUSTAINABILITY. It is the process through which humankind avoids the depletion of natural resources to keep an ecological balance so that society’s quality of life does not decrease. Environmental sustainability covers a wide range of issues starting from a specific location to global.

Methods like COLLABORATIVE CONSUMPTION can reduce waste and save the environment at the same time. Collaborative consumption differs from conventional consumption in that resources, goods, or services are shared by a group rather than individuals. Bartering, Airbnb, and ride-sharing applications are examples of collaborative consumption.

CREATION OF ECO-CITIES helps in establishing a space where residents are able to use low-polluting transport systems. The purpose is to make new and existing urban areas more self-reliant, sustainable, and enjoyable places to live through good ecological design. More and more countries today are adopting eco-city designs. Some of the examples include: Curitiba, Brazil, Waitakere City, New Zealand, Stockholm, Sweden and Chattanooga, Tennessee

MANY CONVENTIONS AND PROTOCOLS have been signed to address the problem of climate change. Kyoto Protocol is a significant environmental treaty ever negotiated for developing systems to measure emissions and systems of accounting. The Paris Agreement signed in 2015 was signed with the aim to get every country on record that it is at least getting started on reducing emissions.
