Energy: Possible Solutions

Stakeholders across the world are framing and adopting policies aimed at increasing renewable energy. At least 29 U.S. states have set renewable portfolio standards—policies that mandate a certain percentage of energy from renewable sources. Today, 70 per cent of renewable energy is generated by more than 100 cities worldwide. On the other hand, there are other countries who still in the process of adopting renewable energy sources. There is a need for political will to encourage renewable energy growth which can be achieved through carbon pricing, fuel economy standards, and building efficiency standards. Many business corporations and private firms can make a difference by adopting renewable energy.

In 2016, California’s renewable energy firm SolarReserve commissioned the world’s first 24/7 solar power plant

Scientist Mark Jacobson believes it’s possible to meet the energy needs of the world by using 100% renewable energy sources. Despite the problems, renewable energy sources provide efficient solutions. Moreover, nuclear energy sources hold the promise of a sustainable future. Nuclear power plants produce no greenhouse gases and provide a constant, stable supply of electricity. This contrasts with renewable energy sources such as wind energy and solar energy that depend on constantly changing weather patterns to generate electricity. For the quantity of energy they produce, the financial costs associated with nuclear power plants are decreasing. Renewable energy technologies remain a core part of the solution to climate change.

A single 2.5 MW wind turbine can generate electricity for powering over 1,400 households annually!
