Famous People in Science 1

1. Copernicus - Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance mathematician and astronomer who formulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun rather than the Earth at its center.

2. William Gilbert - William Gilbert was an English physician and natural philosopher who wrote a six-volume treatise that compiled all the information regarding magnetism and electricity known at the time. He was first to postulate the theory of north and south pole of the Earth.

3. Galileo Galilei -  often known mononymously as Galileo, was an Italian physicist, mathematician, engineer, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the scientific revolution. He put forward the theory of falling objects, as well as confirmed the heliocentric model.

4. Johannes Kepler - was a German mathematician and astronomer. He is best known for his laws of planetary motion.

5. Rene Descartes -  is credited as the father of analytical geometry, the bridge between algebra and geometry, crucial to the discovery of infinitesimal calculus and analysis. Descartes was also one of the key figures in the scientific revolution.

6. Robert Boyle - the father of modern chemistry.
