It is an old science, having its beginnings in prehistoric times. The word “anatomy” comes from the Greek words “ana,” meaning “up,” and “tome,” meaning “a cutting.” Traditionally dependent on cutting and dissecting, today, with imaging technology, studying anatomy is easier to study without dissection.
